Answers to the questions we’re asked most. If something isn’t here, call us on +81-959-56-2588 or email shimayadogoen@gmail.com — we’re happy to help.
Is the inn accessible (step-free)?
Because of the way the buildings are laid out, the inn is not step-free. If you have concerns, please contact us before booking.
Can you pick us up to match the ferry?
Yes — for staying guests. There is a free ride between the Ojika Port ferry terminal (Fuefuki) and Shimayado Goen, available 8:00–20:00. Let us know your arrival (or departure) sailing when you book or beforehand, by phone or email; a same-day message is usually fine too. The pick-up runs between the port and the inn only, not to sightseeing spots around the island.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is 1:00 PM–8:00 PM; check-out is by 10:00.
If you need to check in after 8:00 PM, please let us know in advance.
Front desk & phone: 6:00–20:00. If staff are away on a pick-up or cleaning, leave a voicemail or email and we’ll call you back.
Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes. Wi-Fi is available throughout — in every room of the main building, in the guesthouse capsules, and in each Goen-no-Sato room. It handles normal browsing, video and video calls. As on any remote island, speeds can dip or wobble at times depending on the hour, the weather and where you are. There is no wired LAN and no pocket Wi-Fi rental.
How can we pay? Do you take credit cards?
At the Shimayado Goen front desk we accept cash, credit card and PayPay. Electronic money (transport IC cards, iD, QUICPay and the like) is not accepted.
Card prepayment is available when you book through this website (489pro). For bookings via other travel sites, the payment terms shown on that site and plan apply.
Receipts and invoice billing are both available.
Is there a cancellation fee?
To cancel or change a booking, call +81-959-56-2588 or email shimayadogoen@gmail.com.
Direct bookings (this site, phone, email):
- Up to 8 days before: free
- 7–4 days before: 30%
- 3–2 days before: 50%
- Day before: 80%
- On the day: 100%
- No-show / no contact: 100%
For bookings through Rakuten Travel, Jalan, Booking.com and similar, that site’s terms take precedence.
If the boat to Ojika is cancelled due to weather and reaching the island becomes impossible, no cancellation fee applies. If boats are running and you can still get here, the normal terms apply.
Can we stay with children?
Children are welcome in the private rooms and at Goen-no-Sato. The guesthouse dormitory is for junior-high age and older only.
Children’s rates depend on age and plan — please check the booking page for the latest.
Can you accommodate food allergies?
If you have a food allergy, please tell us when you book or beforehand. We’ll do what we can.
That said, this is not an allergen-free kitchen, so we can’t guarantee the complete removal of any allergen. Please keep that in mind.
Can we book room-only?
Yes. A room-only plan is available — choose it when you book.
If you plan to eat at the island’s restaurants, it’s worth checking their days and hours in advance. “Melody Box”, next to the inn, also serves food and drinks.
How do we get around the island?
By rental car, moped, e-bike or bicycle — see Rentals for rates and terms. The free harbour pick-up is only between the port and the inn.
Can we stay multiple nights?
Multi-night and long stays are welcome. For a longer stay, Goen-no-Sato is also an option.
Is there parking?
Yes — free parking for roughly 6–8 cars. If you’re driving, a quick message ahead of time is appreciated.
Can we stay with pets?
Pets cannot stay at Shimayado Goen (main building), the guesthouse or Goen-no-Sato.
If you have particular circumstances, please contact us in advance.
